During our first visit to Siem Reap and Angkor in spring 2009, we were assigned Mr. Sophoan Rath, or Poan for short, as our individual tour guide. At that time we were quickly convinced of his qualities as our guide through the complicated history of the Khmer empires and through the extensive temple complexes of Angkor, which he brought us close to us in a lively and knowledgeable way. We also liked his humane character, his unobtrusive but always committed way of looking after us as the "protégés" entrusted to him. So there was no question who would be our "guide" on our second visit to Cambodia in 2010. Poan picked us up from the airport in Phnom Penh and showed us this city in all its facets - before we set off overland with him as our "guide and driver" to Siem Reap. The days that followed were filled with numerous new discoveries and experiences - mostly away from the main streams of tourists. This was followed by multi-day tours by SUV, well organized and guided by Poan - in 2011 to Kampot and Kep, - in 2012 to Koh Kong and the Kardamom Mountains and finally - in 2013 to Mondulkiri and Sen Monorem. We saw many beautiful landscapes, met numerous lovely people and of course also tried the local cuisine including "fried spiders". But also the dark side of the country, its horrific recent history and of course the problems of the present did not remain hidden from us. Poan has played a major part in all of this and we owe it to him that we have come to know Cambodia like few tourists and have come to love its people. Hermann & Tessy from Aachen

Amazing Siem Reap by Cambodiatraveltrails.com

I am a Brazilian I work in Singapore and I spent three great days in Siem Reap with Mr Sophoan Rath, my guide. He showed me most or the main temples and he shared with me many histories and details about the places we visited. His English is very clear. The service was above what I expected. Just like a walking ipad :)Poan is so knowledgeable about the khmer culture and history of Cambodia.. His warmth and humble personality has made our trip really relaxing .. thank u Poan.. hope to see you soon @ Angkor..

We had a great stay in Siem Reap. This was possible by our very competent guide Poan. He told us so many interesting details about the Cambodian history. Thank you very much, Poan. Rose and I have spent a fantastic time in Cambodia thanks to your guidance. Had a great stay in Siem Reap, especially the day at the temples guided by our fantastic guide Poan. Very, very competent and a lot more helpfull, than we could ever dream off. Can only recommend this great guy. Hope we will be back in Cambodia enjoying your company.
