Dress Code
The site is an active spiritual site for Buddhists and citizens who engage in daily worship, prayer and meditation. Revealing clothes such as shorts and skirts above the knees and showing bare shoulders are prohibited in sacred palaces. Respectful dress is strongly encouraged in Angkor due to the respects towards our community.
Cargo man short, cargo woman shorts and T-Shirt, cover knees and shoulders are recommended.
Currency
The official currency in Cambodia is Cambodian Riel. It trades at around 4,000 riel to one US dollar. The US dollar is Cambodia’s unofficial second currency; therefore, there is no need to change the money. In fact, it is best to carry US dollars with you while you are traveling in Siem Reap, Cambodia. There are ATM everywhere in Cambodia where you could pick up US dollars as well.

Day I - Preah Vihear, Koh Ker and Beng Melea Excursion
Preah Vihear – you will be met and welcomed by our English speaking guide at your preferred pick-up location and then transferred onward to visit Preah Vihear Temple. It is situated atop cliff in the Preah Vihear province of northern Cambodia (180 kilometers from Angkor Wat) and on the border of Kantharalak district (amphoe) in Sisaket province of eastern Thailand. In 1962, following a lengthy dispute between Thailand and Cambodia over ownership, a majority of the International Court of Justice in The Hague awarded the temple to Cambodia.
Affording a view for many kilometers across a plain, Prasat Preah Vihear has the most spectacular setting of all the temples built during the six-centuries-long Khmer Empire. As a key edifice of the empire's spiritual life, it was supported and modified by successive kings and so bears elements of several architectural styles. Preah Vihear is unusual among Khmer temples in being constructed along a long north-south axis, rather than having the conventional rectangular plan with orientation toward the east. The temple gives its name to Cambodia's Preah Vihear province, in which it is now located.
On July 7, 2008, Preah Vihear was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Construction of the first temple on the site began in the early 9th century; both then and in the following centuries it was dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva in his manifestations as the mountain gods Sikharesvara and Bhadresvara. The earliest surviving parts of the temple, however, date from the Koh Ker period in the early 10th century, when the empire's capital was at the city of that name.
Today, elements of the Banteay Srei style of the late 10th century can be seen, but most of the temple was constructed during the reigns of the Khmer kings Suryavarman I (1002 -1050) and Suryavarman II (1113 -1150). An inscription found at the temple provides a detailed account of Suryavarman II studying sacred rituals, celebrating religious festivals and making gifts, including white parasols, golden bowls and elephants, to his spiritual advisor, the aged Brahman Divakarapandita. The Brahman himself took an interest in the temple, according to the inscription, donating to it a golden statue of a dancing Shiva. In the wake of the decline of Hinduism in the region the site was converted to use by Buddhists.

Koh Ker – continue visit Koh Ker. It is a former capital of the Khmer Kingdom, pre-dating Angkor, and is home to many spectacular 10th century temples. A brief interruption: the exception took place in 928AD when, for reasons that remain unclear, there was a disruption in the royal succession. King Jayavarman IV moved the capital 100 km from Angkor north to Koh Ker, where it remained for 20 years. When the capital returned to Angkor, it centered not at Phnom Bakheng as it had before, but further east at the new state-temple of Pre Rup (961AD).
Beng Melea - continue to visit Beng Melea. Sprawling jungle temple covering over one square kilometer, the temple is largely overrun by vegetation and very lightly touristed, giving it an adventours, ‘lost temple’ feel. Photographers: trees growing from the broken towers and galleries offer some of the best ‘tree in temple’ shots aside from Ta Prohm. Constructed in a distinctly Angkor Wat style under the same king that built Angkor Wat, Beng Melea preceded and may have served as a prototype of sorts for Angkor Wat. Though there are some lintel and doorway carving, there are no bas-relief and the carvings are comparatively sparse. When the temple was active, the walls may have been covered, painted or had frescos. In its time, Beng Melea was at the crossroads of several major highways that ran to Angkor, Koh Ker, Preah Vihear (in northern Cambodia) and northern Vietnam.

We have chosen to go from Prakhon Chai (Thailand) to Siem Reap (Cambodia) by car which implied in a complex arrangement to be provided by the agent: a Thai car and driver for the first part of the journey, assistance while crossing the border between the 2 countries and then car and driver for the second half. Everything worked as a perfect clock: good and comfortable cars, punctual, responsible and helpful drivers. Simply amazing. Strongly recommend and would certainly repeat the experience if life allows to. Apart from that while in Siem Reap we also used the agent services for short and not so short drives (Battambang; Preah Vihar; etc) and Mr Kim who assisted us while in Siem Reap was simply perfect. He is a very competent driver and guide, absolutely reliable and a patient and good-hearted person. We are very grateful also to Mr. Sophoan Rath, our first contact with the agency and guess the orchestrator of this most tuned team.
We would like to thank Poan for the customization of our schedule as well as our outstanding guide Kim for guiding us through and teaching us so many important facts about the Khmer history and culture, during the four days spent together throughout Cambodia. We visited Siem Reap in November. If you want to spend hours and hours reviewing competitor reviews - you can waste the time like I did! I spent hours and hours prior to our visit reading through various tour guide/service reviews on Trip Advisor. After reading numerous competitor reviews I decided that I would be booking our tours through Sophoan Rath - this choice was decided through reading the countless excellent reviews on Sophoan on trip advisor and also being aware this company is a nationally accredited service. Having never travelled to Cambodia I wanted a tour service that was helpful, knowledgeable, safe and reliable. We are so pleased that we booked our tours through Sophoan. He provided everything that we wanted and more! Sophoan was prompt with answering all my questions via phone and email and has excellent English skills which was helpful as we spoke no Khmer. There is no words to explain the excellence in customer service we received from Sophoan, he started as being our tour guide and ended as a friend. Sophoan arrived at our motel early in a comfortable late model SUV, air conditioning (which is a must!) and a lovely driver. We found Sophoan to be extremely knowledgeable about the history of this beautiful country and is willing to share his own experiences and knowledge with you.
Sophoan went above and beyond!! He helped us with organising our trip, was always assisting with opening and closing doors, providing bottles of cold water to even checking if the ladies toilet was ok to use and providing toilet paper if necessary - these are all small things however in a foreign country he made us feel so comfortable and safe. We toured the local temples, had an all day tour to Preah Vihear (which I highly recommend) and a tour of the floating village. Sophoan knew we were very interested in learning more about the Khmer culture and even arranged for us to visit a local school as we had bought with us pencils and stickers as gifts to the school. We cannot speak highly enough of Sophoan and we are so grateful for all his help and for allowing us to experience and visit his beautiful country. Sophoan made us feel like family and we have already booked another trip back to Camobodia in 2018 and we can't wait to catch up with our dear friend. Thank you for everything Sophoan xx

Day-trip to Prasat Preah Vihear, Koh Ker and Beng Mealea!
I had booked a private full-day tour for Prasat Preah Vihear, Hoh Ker and Beng Mealea. The tour was one of the most memorable sighseeing trips I have ever undertaken, thanks to Mr. Sophoan Rath. His dedication, knowledge and personal care are truly outstanding. I learned so much about the history and culture of the three places in particular, and Angkor Wat and Cambodia in general, I feel a great sense of debt and gradtidue. Should you visit Seam Reap and look for a tour guide/company: look no further, this is the one to choose!

My colleague recommended Poan to me last year and she visited Cambodia twice with his guided tour.
When someone goes back to the same city and the same guide for a vacation, you know how good they are.
So, I also chose Siem Reap and Poan with confidence, and it was much more than I expected. I am not a talkative person at all, but for the five days with Poan, I couldn't stop talking with him. It was so enjoyable to chat with him about the history, religion and life in Cambodia. He is a very knowledgeable guide, he was able to answer all my questions and much more. With his well thought-out itinerary, my family and I completely enjoyed the temples and the floating village.
He is also very flexible to meet all your needs and never got tired of endless questions. If you only have limited time, please ask him to show you Bayon, Ta Phrom and Angkor Wat, these are must-to-see temples in Siem Reap!
As we had an extra day, we also visited Preah Vihear, which takes more than 3 hours by car (3 hours for one way...), but it was a great decision than spending time at the pool side. Again, you will never be disappointed with Poan, you will love this gentleman as your tour begins and he will be your best friend by the time your tour ends. Two thumbs up!!!
